about

“Low Sky” is the second in a series of three standalone singles by Lunarette. Originally begun by Brian Alvarez in 2017, “Low Sky” found new life during quarantine with the addition of vocals and melodic touch by Lunarette bandmate Jackie Mendoza. At the center of “Low Sky” is a gorgeous Queens sunset in which Alvarez found the song’s initial inspiration. Interpreted with clean bubblegum production and Mendoza’s sage optimism, the song is awash in ultraviolet vocal layers set to an upbeat Jon Secada-inspired groove—a subtle but effective injection of bygone feels that is a staple of Lunarette’s songwriting. In the final chorus, Mendoza asks and answers, “what’s the meaning of life? / there is no question”, a confident and instructive punctuation to the lavender evocations of “Low Sky”.

"“Low Sky” is warm like the fading rays of sunshine as night approaches." - REMEZCLA

"A dream pop track with psychedelic flair." - Brooklyn Vegan

"Cooled over a sunset groove and polished pop production, Mendoza’s vocals layer big questions over absolute ease."
- Recommended Listen

"Bikes with wings flying on their own over a summer mountain pass." - Small Albums

lyrics

cast my worries away with a spell
Heard nothing back from the wishing well
They say let life happen
There’s pain to be forgotten
chances to be take
the bleaker the night
it gets me thinkin’
There’s pain to be forgotten
chances to be taken

gazing at the wall
When there’s a window with a view
I dream about a place
Take me there with you
Don’t think about it now
We can worry about it then
let the lavender dance
Inside your head, inside of your head
OoO
OoO

We wouldn’t be the first to try
So let’s do it on the fly
give it a go, here we are
Look how far we’ve come
OoOo
Our eyelids are taking a bow
We let the lavender sink in now

Spin a globe and point
Your destiny is everywhere
What’s the meaning of life?
There is no question
Just paths with roadblocks, rivers with bedrocks, lovers that come and go~
the low sky swallows you whole
the lavender stays, it remains in our souls
OoO
OoO
